
Lake
Junaluska Assembly is located three miles from Waynesville and
built around a beautiful 250-acre lake. It was started in 1913
with a Missionary Conference attended by more than 4,000 people
and now regularly schedules more than 60 major conferences annually
which are attended by many thousands. The Assembly is the home
of the International Prayer Fellowship, the World Methodist
Council, The Foundation for Evangelism, the Methodist Heritage
Center, and Andean Rural Health Care. The Terrace, a very modern
hotel, is open year-round with accomodations for dining and
meetings.
The Lake Junaluska Heritage Museum is located
on the lower level of Harrell Center. This museum features books,
photographs and other items related to the development of Methodism
in the area. Hours of operation are Tuesday - Friday, 9 a.m.
- 4:30 p.m. and Saturday by appointment.
Located
in the World Methodist Building on Lakeshore Drive is the World
Methodism Museum. This museum tells the history of the Methodist
Church from its founding by John Wesley to the present day.
A research library is in the museum. The museum is open weekdays,
9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Lake Junaluska is home to many different outdoors
activities. Children enjoy feeding the ducks. It also has become
a poplular place for people to walk, run, and bike around. The
Assembly maintains a three mile trail exclusively for people
walking.
